John Peuker was born in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, on the 29th of November, 1835. At the age of twenty he came to this country and after remaining in New Orleans a short time he went to Cincinnati. In 1860 he came to Iowa and settled on the farm about seven miles southwest of town, where he resided during the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage to Lena Rau on the 22nd of April, 1864. He enjoyed good health until the morning of March 28th, when he was stricken with paralysis. Death came to him after three days illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at ten o'clock at the house, and at half-past twelve in St. Paul's church, and interment took place in the new cemetery. Rev. K. W. Braun officiated. Mr. Peuker was an honest and upright man and a kind and indulgent husband and father, always considerate of his family's happiness and prosperity. His wife and all of the children, viz, three sons and four daughters, also eight nephews and two grandchildren survive. The sons are John and Charles, at home, and Alexander, living in Minnesota. The daughters are Mrs. Chris Sieling, of Guttenberg, Mrs. Chris Kregel and Mrs. Frank Oelkers, of Garnavillo, and Mrs. Frank Sodawater, of Elkport.
