Augustus H. Mallory was born in Gennesee county, N.Y., Aug. 25th, 1825, and died at the old home near Osterdock March 13th, 1907, aged 81 years, 6 months and 18 days. In the spring of 1830, Mr. Mallory, with his father, drove to Iowa. In 1850, with three brothers, he crossed the plains to California, being on the road just five months, returning home via Central America. He is the last of eight brothers, but has one sister, Mrs. Annie Stone, now living in Johannesberg, South Africa. He was married to Rosena Knee of Colesburg, Feb. 20, 1860, to which union seven children were born, viz; William, who died in infancy, Sam, Mrs. Kate Palmer, Horace A., Mrs. Alta Smith, Mrs. Leta Brown, and Mrs. Bessie Lee, all of whom live near here except Bessie, who now resides at Britt, Iowa. He was a good father, an ardent home lover, and an honorable and well respected citizen and neighbor. Rev. Brooks, of Fairview, preached the funeral sermon to a large audience. Interment was made in Brown's cemetery under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Colesburg, of which Mr. Mallory has long been a member. A large number of Odd Fellows were present.
