Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Mar., 1907.
At the home of his brother James, near Sawyer, Ward county, N.D., on Saturday, March 9th, occurred the death of John Fitzpatrick, of ulceration of the stomach, after an illness of about four months. Deceased was the third son of Patrick and Catherine Fitzpatrick, and was born in Cox Creek twp., Clayton county, Iowa, March 1, 1861, and was a few days over 46 years of age at his death. He was educated in the country schools and also attended the Elkader High School under the principalship of P. W. McClellan. He taught school in this county and also in North Dakota.
On Feb. 23rd, 1892, he was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Doran, of Volga twp., and for a time they resided on the home farm in Cox Creek. About 12 years ago they moved onto a farm near Kimbrae, Minn., where they resided until his wife died in May, 18__ (looks like 1899). Mr. Fitzpatrick soon after moved to Ward county, N.D., where he died.
He is survived by his aged father, two brothers, Mathew, of Elkader, and James, of Sawyer, N.D., and one sister, Mrs. M. Wiley, of Littleport.
Deceased was a man of very positive opinions and one who was highly respected as a citizen in the community in which he lived. His remains arrived here yesterday noon, accompanied by James Fitzpatrick.
The funeral was held this morning at St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating.
