Michael E. Grady, 89, a lifetime resident of Marquette, Ia. died at the McGregor Community Hospital, Monday, November 14, 1960, after a weeks illness. He was born at Marquette March 13, 1871, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Grady of Marquette.

He attended the Marquette Public School and at the age of 14, went to work for the Milwaukee R. R. After several years on the railroad, he entered business with G. H. Dahmen, operating a grocery store in Marquette for several years. He returned to the railroad in 1907, as a trainman on the Iowa and Dak. Division of the Milwaukee Road, until his retirement on Dec. 30th, 1937.

He was always active, during his younger years, in the Civic affairs of his home town, serving several terms as city councilman, and vice-pres. and director of the Marquette Savings Bank.

He was married June 18, 1885 to Jessie Helene Scrogum, who preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1946.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic church and the Holy Name Society of McGregor, Iowa. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church in McGregor on Wednesday, November 16 at 9:30 a m Rev Francis Phelan officiating Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Casket Bearers were, Harry Schott, James Geraghty, Norman Scrogun, Edward McAndrew, Mark Young and Melvin Young. Relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Grady, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Grady, Mr. and Mrs. John Geraghty, all of Monona, IA. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Scrogum of Alexandria, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Crapnell of Oelwein Ia. and Miss Florence Foley of Dubuque, Iowa
