Elkader Register, Thur., 31 Jan. 1907. Local News columns.
This community was shocked Tuesday morning upon learning that Mrs. Jans Tieden, Sr., of Cox Creek twp., had suddenly died during Monday night. She had retired in her usual health, but about 5 o'clock, Tuesday morning, Mr. Tieden, in reaching his hand over to awaken her, touched her face and found her cold. It is thought she had peacefully departed in her sleep as her eyes and mouth were closed and her hands crossed over her breast. Mrs. Tieden had suffered from heart disease and it was probably the cause of her demise.
Anna Bauman was born at Mt. Hollow, New Jersey, May 20, 1848, and came to this county with her parents, Michael and Barbara Bauman, in 1852. She was united in marriage with Mr. Tieden Feb. 7th, 1868. To them were born five sons, Michael, Frank, Jans, George and Louis, and six daughters, Mary, Alma, Anna, Tillie, Martha and Juliette, all of whom, with the father, survive to mourn a devoted wife and mother. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.
The funeral will be held at the family residence at 11 o'clock Friday morning, Rev. Mr. Braun, of Garnavillo, is to officiate. The interment will be at Communia.
