Elkader Register, Thur., 31 Jan. 1907. Volga and Vicinity column.

William Leroy, third son of T. W. and Sarah Cummings, was born July 15th, 1892, and entered the larger life on the night of the 26th of January, 1907, in the fifteenth year of his age. On Friday the 25th, after his school closed for the day, he walked to the home of his sister, Mrs. Orrin Walters, where, on Saturday, he helped with the usual work. In the evening, after assisting with the chores, he complained of being dizzy and drowsy, retiring to bed about eight o'clock. His sister, who felt some slight uneasiness, told him if he felt worse or needed her, to call her from the room adjoining his. Waking at about four o'clock in the morning, she arose, and going into his room, found him cold in death, lying in the position in which he usually slept. His parents and a physician were hastily summoned. Upon examination the physician decided that death had occurred before midnight, caused by an unsuspected heart trouble. While we bow in submission to the will of the All-wise Father, knowing that he makes no mistakes, it is still beyond our ken to know why such a happy, bright young life should be cut off in what seems so untimely a manner. Roy was of such a sunny, loveable disposition that he will be sadly missed outside of his home, for all who knew him were his friends. From the home a father's pride and a mothers joy has been taken, while the loving brothers and sisters have lost a cheery companion as well as a dear brother. The funeral was held at the Bailey Ridge school house, where he has always attended school. Rev. Shoemacher officiated, burial in the Volga City cemetery on Tuesday.

It was so sudden, our white lips said.
How we shall miss him, our beautiful dead.
Who takes the place of our dear one fled ?
God knows best.
We can trust for the rest.
