Mrs. Anna Maria Reimer was born Oct. 10, 1846, in Ulsberg Canton, Basel, Switzerland. She was the third oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Speiser. When she was eight years of age the family emigrated to this country and settled in Volga twp.
On Dec. 26, 1879, she was married to Karl Reimer. To this union were born nine children, of whom two, namely, Carl Frederich and Maria, preceded the mother in death.
Those remaining are John Henry, married to Lena Kuhl and residing in Read twp.; Louisa, married to Wm. Splies of Garnavillo twp.; Caroline to John Fritz, of Monona; Magdalena, Charles, Herman at home; and Will, a student at Des Moines.
Mrs. Reimer possessed rather a strong constitution and enjoyed good health until the second day of November, when a light stroke of apoplexy afflicted her and caused great weakness of the heart. Medical skill and the careful nursing she received caused her to rally for a time, but the inevitable end was slowly yet surely approaching and on December 19th, at 4 p.m. she passed quietly and peacefully away, surrounded by her husband and children to whom she has been a devoted wife and a kind and indulgent mother.
Funeral services occurred on Saturday the 22nd, and were conducted by Rev. K. W. Braun, at the house, church and new cemetery.
A large and beautiful spray of nursery roses and carnations and a wreath of holly constituted the floral tributes.
A sister in Pueblo, Col., and a brother in Maltall, Okla., also survive.
