The summons that comes to all mankind, that may come to the young but must come to the aged, was given to a highly respected citizen of Highland, Wednesday morning of last week, when Robert Duff bid adieu to earth and his spirit took its flight to its maker.

Robert Duff was born in Dalmellington, Scotland, June 18, 1826, and died at his home in Highland Nov. 8, 1905, about 1 o'clock p.m., aged 79 years, 4 months and 20 days.

He came to America in 1850 and made his home for a number of years at Pittsburg, Pa. While there he was united in marriage to Isabella Probert.

A few years later he and his family came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Highland, where he resided up to the time of his death.

A good man has gone to his rest, a loving husband, a kind and patient father, a true christian. Just and fair in all his dealings, forgiving and thoughtful, he will be greatly missed.

He leaves to mourn his loss three daughters and four sons, two sisters and a brother.

At an early age Robert Duff united with the Reform Presbyterian church and afterwards became a member of the United Presbyterian denomination and remained a devout member of this body.

The funeral was held from Highland's place of worship, Friday, Nov. 10. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Smith, the pastor of the Presbyterian church of Volga, who preached an able sermon from Rev. 14:13. The burial took place in the family lot in the Volga cemetery.

Take comfort christians when your friends in Jesus fall asleep,
Their better being never ends, why then dejected weep?
Why inconsolable as those to whom no hope is given
Death is the messenger of peace and calls the soul to heaven.
