Jeremiah Cannon, born at Ballatough, Clare Island, County Mayo, Ireland, December 21, 1837. Died at his residence at North McGregor, Iowa, April 1, 1916, aged 78 years, 3 months, 10 days.

Mr. Cannon with his wife, came to North McGregor, forty-six years ago, where to them were born six children: Mary; Anna (Mrs. A.B. Hahn); Sarah (Mrs. J.M. Young); Anthony; Bridget and John.

The oldest daughter, Mary died Aug. 26, 1875, and from Aug 12, 1891, to April 1, 1898, the beloved wife and the five children passed away, leaving the devoted husband and father to live in the memories of his beloved home, sustained and guarded by his christian faith, and looking forward to the reunion with is loved ones, when he too listened to the Master's call.

He was a faithful employee in the engine department of the C.M. & St. P. Co. here, and considered one of the best boiler washers on the system from 1869 to the year 1905, when his health began to fail, and he retired from active work, busying himself with his home and reading; his grandson, Mark Young living with him, a comfort to his declining years, while his grand-daughter, Gertrude Hahn, added many hours of cheer to the passing days.

In poor health for several months, not until two days before passing away, did he give up the joy of walking around his home, then gently the life ebbed, and at 5:55 Saturday morning, April 1st, he was united with his family in the haven of peace and joy.

The funeral services were held at St. Mary's church, McGregor, Monday morning, April 3rd. Rev. Ford of Dubuque officiating at requiem high mass, and Rev. E.P. Toole, a relative of Ellsworth, Wis., conducted the services at the cemetery.

He leaves two grandchildren to mourn his loss, Gertrude Hahn and Mark Young, a brakeman on the I. & D. div.
