Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Mar. 1916. Guttenberg column.
On Friday morning, March 3rd, 1916, at ten o'clock, at his home in this city, Conrad Kohler passed away after a lingering illness, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 7 days. Deceased was born in Konton, St. Gallen, Switzerland, om November 26th, 1829, and in the year 1854 he came to the United State, settling in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa, where he was successfully engaged in farming for many years, later going to Monona, Iowa, near which place he was again successfully engaged in farming for many years, and about fifteen years ago the family came to Guttenberg to reside, where deceased lived until his death. On June 4th, 1862, he was married at Prairie du Chien, Wis., to Miss Mary Wirkler. He had been ailing for some time, and all that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest was done for him to ward off death, but all to no avail. His death is deeply mourned by his aged wife, three sons, Alois, Christian and Edward, all of Monona, Iowa, several grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in this city on Monday morning, Rev. J. H. Brinkman officiating, and after which the body was taken to Monona for burial.
