Max Liers, a former resident of Elkader, died Friday evening at Oelwein, following a ten-days' illness of pneumonia. Mr. Liers was born at Elkader 34 years ago, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Liers. He was a resident of Dubuque for nine years, being employed here as a machinist at the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul shops. A little over six years ago he went to Oelwein to work in the same capacity for the Chicago & Great Western. Mr. Liers is survived by his parents, two sisters, Josephine, a missionary in India, and Louise, a trained nurse in Chicago, and three brothers, Emil, of New Albin; Carl, an I. C. fireman at Freeport, and Frank, of Oelwein. The body was taken to Clayton on Saturday and the funeral was held there Monday afternoon. Mr. Liers was a member of the Masonic order and the M.W.A. John and George Ehrhard, of this place, second cousins, attended the funeral.
