From a Denver, Colo., paper we take the following notice of the death of Mrs. Lucy R. Southworth, a former resident of this county.
On January 31st, 1916, there died in Denver one of the noblest pioneer women who ever came to Colorado, Mrs. Lucy R. Southworth, a sister of Mrs. Thalia Rhoads, of this city. Mrs. Southworth was born March 22nd, 1833. In the early days of Colorado she left Clayton County, Iowa, and came here in company with her husband, the late Dixon L. Southworth, settling in Gilpin county, where they remained a number of years. For several years past she has made her home with her sister.
She leaves to mourn her death one brother, William Tyler Palmer, of Edgewood, Iowa; One sister, Mrs. Thalia A. Rhoads, of Denver, Colo.; two nephews, Dr. William P. Knapp, of McGregor, Iowa, Rhoads Palmer, of Denver, Colo.; one niece, Rose Ann Palmer, of Strawberry Point; one grandson, James Blaine Southworth, of Denver, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Thomas Southworth, of Denver, and one cousin, Mrs. R. E. Price, of Elkader.
On Wednesday, February 2nd, 1916, the funeral rites of the Christian Science faith were read, after which the remains were taken to Fairmount cemetery and deposited in the family plot along side of those of her husband. The pall bearers were James Blaine Southworth, her grandson; Rhoads Palmer, a nephew; Walter Satzell, Robt. J. McGutcheon, Ralph Rhoads and Halsey M. Rhoads.
