John Wesley Scriven was born in Wayne county, Indiana, March 13th, 1854, and died February 9th, 1916, after a lingering illness, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Will Trezona, of this township. He moved with his parents to Iowa in his infancy and has lived here ever since with the exception of one year which was spent in Wisconsin. He was married on March 1st, 1883, to Ella Jane Canfield, and three daughters were born to them, viz: Mrs. Jennie Trezona, of Elkader, Iowa; Miss Susa Scriven, of Elkader, Iowa; the other dying in infancy. His wife died December 22nd, 1910. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at the home in this township, conducted by Rev. Isaac Cassel, burial at Strawberry Point.

His death certificate gives burial place as County Cemetery. This is an error … correct burial place is in the County Corners cemetery (Cass twp. about 7 mi. SW of Strawberry Point) where his wife Ella, daughter Jennie Trezona & his father Oliver are buried.
