Miss Sophie Schroeder died Saturday noon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schroeder, after a lingering illness of several months, at the age of 18 years. The funeral was held at the Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. Paulson officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.

Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 10 Feb. 1916. Elkport and Vicinity column.

A shadow of sorrow overspread this community on Saturday, January 29th, when it was learned that Sophia Schrader, the eighteen-year-old daughter of Henry Schrader and wife, of this vicinity, had departed this life. During the earlier part of this winter, strong hopes were entertained for her recovery but a week ago complications set in and it was then realized that the end was inevitable. All that medical aid and loving hands could do to prolong her stay was done, but to no avail. During her last days she was ever kind, patient and gentle, never complaining. She was conscious to the last and the end came peacefully and prayerfully. She requested her sister to read a passage from Holy Scripture, then she opened her eyes and took a long, last parting look on each member of the family, all of whom were present, and then her sufferings were over. She was at rest.

Sophia Clara Louise Schrader was born September 13th, 1898. Her entire life was spent on the farm home which the family now occupies.

A profusion of floral offerings decked the pretty casket. The funeral was held from her late home to the Lutheran Church at Elkport, which was taxed to its capacity with sympathizing friends, Rev. Paulson conducting the services. After the services the remains were borne up the hill to their last resting place in the cemetery adjoining the church. The pall bearers were Rose Curran, Martha Stemmer, Pearl Harbaugh, Alice Rowell, Alma Lamphere and Constance Curran. These young ladies were assisted by the following young men, Clarence Phelan, Sylvester Curran, George Downey, Edmond Curran, Leo Phelan and Walter Lundt.

She leaves to mourn her departure her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schrader; three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Lizzie Menge, Mrs. D. D. Harbaugh, Martha, Henry and Freddie and many other relatives. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved relatives.
