Wm Kruse, an old and respected citizen of this community, passed away at his home near Read on Thursday, December 30th, 1915. The deceased was born in 1844, in Stralsund, Province of Pommern, Germany, where he was also united in marriage to Mary Stowsandt on October 30th, 1869. Mr. and Mrs. Kruse left the land of their birth in 1872. Upon coming to the United States they chose Iowa as their point of destination and made their home for a number of years in Clayton Center. In 1886 the deceased bought a farm two miles northwest of Read where he spent the remaining thirty years of his life, having, however, sold his farm to his son George a few days ago.
Mr. Kruse was the father of seven children, two of which preceded him in death. Those surviving are: John, of Montrose S.D., Henry, of Farmersburg, and George Kruse, Mrs. Fred Glawe and Mrs. Chas. Seeland, Jr. The deceased has one brother and two sisters still living in the Fatherland; sixteen grandchildren also mourn his departure.
The funeral was held on New Year's Day, amidst a large gathering of sympathizing friends and relatives, Rev. Ath___stadt officiating.
The death of Mr. Kruse marks the passing of a highly esteemed citizen, a man who went about his business in a quiet and unassuming manner, ever peaceful, liberty-loving and law-abiding; but more than that, he was a God-fearing man, one who found comfort and solace in having, throughout his long life of more than three score and ten years, linked his soul to a Higher Personality.
