Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 18 May 1916.
Mrs. L. H. C. Crousaz died May 10th, 1916, at the home of her son, Manager L. S. Crousaz of the Iowa Telephone Company at Iowa City, closing a life of good deeds at the advanced age of 82 years. Her maiden name was Lambertine Moltzer, born in Holland, July 31st, 1838. There she was married in 1866 to Jean S. Crousaz, who was for twenty-four years a principal of public schools in the Hague. They came to America in 1870, settling in New York, where he first engaged in teaching, and later entered the ministry of the Presbyterian Church.
In 1889 they removed to Iowa, where Rev. Crousaz became a member of the Dubuque Presbytery, and at the time of his death, eight years ago, he was the oldest minister in the Presbytery. Mrs. Coursaz was an active and efficient helper to her husband in all his work, and made her long life one of sacrifice for the good of others. For a number of months she had been ill, but since last Christmas she suffered a gradual decline of her physical powers, incidental to old age. During her illness she was called upon to suffer physical pain. To those who lovingly waited upon her, ministering so kindly and caring for her so patiently it seemed that the pain was almost beyond human endurance. Through it all she would remind them of the sufferings of Christ, of what He was called upon to endure for the sins of the world, and in this, the trial of her faith, she endured as seeing Him who is invisible. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory "If we suffer with Him we shall reign with him." Among her favorite hymns was "Jesus is Mine," which contains a genuine declaration of faith, also showing an anxiety to "be absent from the body, present with the Lord."
Farewell mortality, Jesus is mine
Welcome eternity, Jesus is mine
Welcome O loved and blest,
Welcome sweet scene of rest,
Welcome my Saviour's breast,
Jesus is mine.Since the death of her husband she has made her home with her only son, L. S. Crousaz, of Iowa City, who, together with two adopted daughters, Mrs. J. C. Probert, of West Union, and Mrs. E. L. Morse, of Oelwein, mourn her death, yet rejoice in her triumphant faith. The body was brought to Volga City, Thursday afternoon, and was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the parish they served for many years during the period of their active ministry. A brief service was conducted at the grave by Rev. Roberts, who spoke from the text Rev. 14-13. May we all learn to love her Christ, cherish her precepts, follow her example, honor her religion and bring upon us the benediction of the word, blessed are the dead, who died in the Lord.
