Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 27 Apr. 1916. Guttenberg column.

On Sunday morning, April 16th, 1916, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Sodawasser and family, in this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Anna Martha Kohler, a pioneer resident of Guttenberg. She was 83 years, 6 months and 23 days of age at the time of her death, and the cause of her death was mainly due to old age. She had been ailing for some time, having had strokes of paralysis. Deceased was born in Sachsen-Weimer, Germany, on September 23rd, 1832, and later came to the United States. She was married to Mr. L. Kohler, who preceded her in death many years ago. In the death of Mrs. Kohler this city loses another one of its pioneer residents, she having lived here for many years. She was an ambitious woman during her entire life, and was always ready with heart and hand to help those in need, which won her many friends. She was also a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church, of this city, and she was a true Christian woman. For the past few years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Herman Sodawasser, where she passed away Sunday morning. She was a kind and loving mother and friend and her death is deeply mourned by three daughters, Mrs. Herman Sodawasser and Mrs. John Mueller, of Guttenberg; and Mrs. Kobel, of Superior, Wis., two sons, George and Bernard Kohler, of Guttenberg, a number of grand and great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in this city on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Janzig officiating. Interment was made in the City Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
