Gertrude Luehsen died Sunday, November 5th, at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Schulte. The sad news of Gertrude's death came as a dark shadow to friends and relatives who loved her so dearly, and every heart was touched with sympathy for the stricken ones. Not quite two years ago, in January 1915, the husband and father was called by death, and now the little daughter has been taken, leaving the home empty and desolate. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Luehsen, born August 13th, 1908. Several years ago she was afflicted with scarlet fever, which left her with valvular heart trouble. She had been ill nearly all summer and about two months ago was taken to Dubuque for medical aid. There being no relief for her, they brought her home on Sunday by auto. Just two hours after her arrival she passed away. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Church, Rev. Raedler officiating, after which the little form was laid to rest in the place that she had chosen beside the grave of her father in the new cemetery. Besides her mother she is deeply mourned by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Luehsen and Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Schulte, and many other relatives and friends.
