Notice to Absentee and Heir
In the Matter of the Estate of Elias Brock, Absentee.

To Elias Brock, Absentee, and Sarah A. Brock, sole Heir.

You and each of you are hereby notified that on the 4th day of April, 1910, there was filed in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Clayton County, Iowa, a petition of Sarah A. Brock claiming that Elias Brock has been absent from home for the past thirty years during all of which time he is supposed to be dead, and that he has left no wife or children and that Sarah A. Brock is his mother and sole Heir, and that property of the value of about $180.00 came to said Elias Brock from his father's Estate and asking that James McGuire be appointed as Administrator of the Estate of said Elias Brock, an Absentee, whose whereabouts cannot be ascertained, and you will therefore appear on or before the morning of the 2nd day of the next September Term, of 1910, of said Court, which begins and is to be held at Elkader, Iowa, on the 5th day of September, 1910, and then and there show cause if any you have why the prayer of said petition should not be granted, or the same will be granted as prayed,

Note: The 1856 Iowa State Census, Jefferson twp. enumerated Elias Brock, age 7 in the household of Johann & Sarah Brock. The 1860 U.S. Census, same location, his age was given as 13.

A search of census records after 1860 finds in the 1870 U.S. census, an Elias Brock, age 20, b. IL, living with 3 other men, all with different surnames & birth-places, in their early 20's in Johnson co. Missouri. His occupation is domestic. No male remotely matching is found in subsequent census records.

His mother's maiden name was Crawford.
