Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 3 Aug. 1916. Strawberry Point column.
Word was received late Monday evening that Robert Wood had been shot and killed on the Mexican border. It seems that a number of Mexican bandits had crossed the Rio Grande near Fort Hancock, Texas, early Monday morning, supposedly for the purpose of sealing horses. They were discovered by American soldiers and during the clash Mr. Wood was shot. He is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank wood, of this place, and was United States customs inspector. His brother Phil started for the border, Tuesday morning, and it is expected the remains will be brought here for burial.
