Patrick Hogan died at his residence in Elkader, on Saturday, Feb. 15th, at the advanced age of 75 years. He was born in 1821 a native of the county West Meath, Ireland. He came to America in 1845, locating in New York where he married Miss Gauley.
They then went to Connecticut where Mr. Hogan worked for several years in the celebrated iron works establishment of Oakes Ames. In 1852 they came to Clayton county, settling first in Read twp., then after four years selling out and moving to a large farm in Cox Creek twp. Some twenty years since Mr. Hogan moved to Elkader.
Ten children were born to him, seven sons and two daughters, of whom only two daughters, Mrs. Patrick Fury, of Dubuque, and Mrs. John Downey, of Elkader and the wife and several grandchildren survive to mourn.
Generous and kind hearted he will be mourned and missed not only by his family, but by many friends. The funeral was held Monday morning from St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father Reilley officiating. His sufferings are over, may he rest in peace.
