The funeral of Paul J. Thoma, who passed away suddenly at his home in Omaha on Saturday morning, March 18, was held at St. Paul's church on Wednesday afternoon, Reverend Braun conducting the services. A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance to pay their respects to their departed friend.
Deceased was born in Garnavillo on March 29, 1868. He remained at home until his eighteenth year, when he went to Nebraska, where he continued to reside until the time of his death. On Sept. 15, 1892, he was married to Mrs. Cora Harmon, of Omaha.
His sudden demise was due to organic heart disease. Besides his wife he leaves three brothers and four sisters, Fred, of Clayton township; Mrs. Anna Ihde, of Read; Mrs. Paulina Schroeder, of Guttenberg; Mrs. Marie Tangeman, of McGregor; Mrs. Rosina Schumacher, and Charles and Christ, of Garnavillo.
The out of town people who attended the funeral were: Fred Conrad and John Welzel, John and George Thoma, John Moetsch, J. Harnack, Chas. Sunkalb, Henry Schuette and Herman Rose, of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schroeder and daughter Melvina, John Soltau and daughter Minnie and William Junk, of Guttenberg; Mrs. J. L. Hagensick and son, of McGregor; Mr. and Mrs. Christ Schmidt, Carrie Schmidt, Mrs. Wm. Becker, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Tangeman, of Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kregel, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schierholz and Mr. Kruse, of Monona; and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Best and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Diers, of Read.
