Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Feb. 1911. Strawberry Point column.

Harriet E. Simmons was born in Lebanon, Madison county, New York, March 11, 1839. She came west with her father's family in the spring of 1856, and made Iowa her home. She was married to Theodore P. Simmons Nov. 15th, 1858. After a residence of 2 years at West Union, they removed to this vicinity which has been the family home ever since. She passed to her reward Feb. 5th, 1911, aged 71 years, 10 months and 24 days. Only one son blessed the union, Newman A. Simmons, of Strawberry Point, who alone is left of the family. She leaves besides, two sisters and one brother. Mother Simmons united with the Congregational church Jan. 4th, 1891. The funeral services were held from the home of her son, Tuesday, Rev. O. M. vanSwearingen officiating. Burial took place in local cemetery.
