May Wegner Mertens was born at Eltner, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, July 13, 1846, and died September 11th, 1911, aged 65 years, 1 month and 28 days. She came to this country with her parents in the year 1867, settling near Postville, Ia. In 1870 she was joined in marriage to Wm. Mertens and in the same year settled on a farm near Farmersburg. Her husband preceded her in death October 30th, 1910. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son John and family and one sister, Mrs. Dora Petri, of Des Moines. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the German Lutheran church here, Rev. Guetzloff officiating. Interment in the Farmersburg cemetery.
