Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 7 Sept. 1911. Littleport columns.

The subject of this sketch was born Feb. 7th, 1864. He was the son of Hans and Margaret Miersen. He was a bright, active lad and grew to a rich manhood. He was of a jovial disposition and made many friends who remained such to the close of his life. In the pleasant month of June, 1892, he was married to Miss Bertha Greve and the love of those days remained the same through all the years. Theirs was a happy home and with their only son Otis, they enjoyed the blessings which love can give to those whose efforts are to bring success. Its about a year ago his health failed and since January of this year, he has been ailing constantly. His faithful companion was his constant nurse and went with him to Excelsior Springs, Mo., and to the hospital in Dubuque. It was here he suffered another stroke, which together with his heart trouble slowly took his strength and the candle which had been burning for 47 years, 6 months and 25 days was put out forever in the early morning before dawn on Sept. 2, 1911. On Monday, Sept. 4th, the burial took place, Rev. Fuelsch, pastor of the churches at Elkport and Littleport, conducted the services at the house and at the grave. His text was Psalm 39, verse 5. It was a very able sermon and the words spoken must bring a ray of comfort and sunshine through the dark cloud of sorrow into the hearts of the mourners. Duets were sung by Mrs. Fuelsch and Mrs. C. Dietrich Beck, and the long procession left the home to the Littleport cemetery, where the remains were laid. He will be greatly missed by many friends as well as by the sorrowing widow and son; also by his only sister, Mrs. W. Armbruster, of East Dubuque, Ill., and by the neighbors and friends. A step-mother also survives him.

The pall bearers were chose friends: Wm. Meyer, Fred Hochhaus, John Osborne, W. Reichert, Henry Reichert, E. Enderes.
