Mrs. Anna Becker, nee Book, died at her home in Garnavillo, Ia., at two o'clock on Monday afternoon, August 7, 1911. Deceased was born in Lorup, Amt Heummling Province, Hanover, Germany, on February 18, 1882. She was 83, 5 months and 19 days at the time of her death, and the last of a family of four brothers and two sisters. Her husband preceded her in death fifteen years ago. She came to America in September 1856, and in July 1857, was united in marriage to Casper Becker at Cincinnati, Ohio, and shortly after came to Clayton county, where she has since resided with the exception of about seven years, which she spent at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. F. Meehan, near Rockwell, in Cerro Gordo county, Iowa. She was the mother of seven children and three step-children. Those left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother are: John, of Le Mars, Ia.; Henry, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Joseph, of Brandon, Manitobia; Rose, now Mrs. P. F. Meehan, of Rockwell, Ia.; and Mary and Sarah, who were with her during the last three years of her life. Four children have preceded her in death. She was stricken with paralysis four years ago which caused a lameness of her left side, making it almost impossible for her to wait upon herself, but she was a patient sufferer and bore her affliction without a murmur.
The funeral services on Thursday morning, Aug. 10th, at 10 o'clock, were conducted by Rev. Father Raedler, at St. Joseph's Church, of which she was a devout member. Interment in the Catholic cemetery.
