Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 27 July 1911. Volga City Views columns.

Ruth Davis Probert, the youngest daughter of John N. and Nellie Probert, was born June 19th, 1907 and died July 23rd, 1911, aged four years, one month and four days.

Little Ruth was always very delicate and during the first three years of her life she had almost constant struggle with sickness, but the past year her health was so much improved that all began to feel confident that she was going to master her delicate constitution and be spared to grace her parents' home for a goodly number of years. Ruth had a bright, happy disposition and made friends very quickly; and many a silent tear was shed when these received the sad news of her seeming untimely end.

The Sabbath preceding her late illness she was unusually bright and happy and seemed to be in the best of health, but by Monday morning the grim monster, disease, had lain his cruel hand upon her and claimed her as his victim. During the week that followed the little sufferer bore with much patience the anguish of a burning fever, together with great pain, and when at last her Guardian Angel bore her triumphantly home, to her Eternal Father's abode, we found ourselves unconsciously repeating God's blessed assurance to His children, "God shall wipe away all tears from her eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away."

She leaves to mourn her loss a mother and father, and two sisters, Jessie and Doris, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Tuesday in the Presbyterian church at Volga, burial in the Volga City cemetery, Rev. Wm. Ensign, of Manchester, assisting Rev. Healey. The church was very tastefully decorated in white and green flowers.

Friends from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Lowe, grandparents, of La Harpe, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ensign, of Farley; Mrs. Hall, of Sylvan, Wis.; Mrs. O. F. Davis and D. C. Hale, of Elkader, and James Probert, of West Union.
