In the death of Christopher Schmalfeldt, at the home of Wm. H. Oelke last Friday morning, Dec. 22nd,, Farmersburg township has lost one of its oldest citizens. Uncle Schmalfeldt's health had been quite poor all fall so his death was not entirely unexpected. Christopher Schmalfeldt was born in Vietluebbe, Mecklenburg, Germany, November 12th, 1820. He emigrated to this country in 1851, settling on a farm in Farmersburg township, where he resided for about 50 years. In 1855 he was married to Miss Dora Bluhm. His wife preceded him in death in 1893, three nieces, Mrs. Wm. Oelke, Mrs. Chas. Lenth, Sr., and Mrs. Fred Neverman, also one nephew, John Schmalfeldt, are all that remain to mourn the death of their kind uncle. The funeral service was held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Lutheran church, Rev. Gu____laff officiating. The burial was made in the Clayton Center cemetery.
