Clayton County Register, Thur., 30 Dec. 1926. Garnavillo News column.

Christian William Schumacher was born Oct. 24, 1854, in Read township as the oldest son of Henry H. Schumacher and his wife Margaret (nee Hagensick). He spent his childhood days in Read township until he was confirmed in the St. Paul's church. He was married to Rosina Thoma on Dec. 31, 1879, in Wyloosing, Wis., by Louis Glass. This union was blessed with four children who survive the father. For nine years they were engaged in farming on different farms of the county until they moved to town in 1887. For practically a quarter of a century Mr. Schumacher was engaged in the service of the United States Postal Dept., hauling mail from Garnavillo to Clayton since 1902. He was always very dependable in his service, always made it a point to be on time and to render the best of service. He had been ailing for the last year but the end came rather unexpectedly. He died Thursday evening at 5:30. He is survived by his grief stricken widow, Mrs. Rosina Schumacher of Garnavillo, his three sons, Wm. Schumacher married to Stella Druen, Orlando Schumacher married to Anna Stiehl, and Lawrence Schumacher married to Harriet Hessel, all of this place, and one daughter Alma, married to Frank Schultz, of Clayton. He also leaves to mourn nine grandchildren; one brother, Henry Schumacher, of Garnavillo; and three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Roebken and Mrs. Amelia Mohrman, both of this place, and Mrs. Bertha Tangeman of Elkader. He had reached the age of 72 years, one month and 29 days.
