Clayton County Register, Thur., 9 Dec. 1926. Strawberry Point columns.
Death called a devoted mother from a life of usefulness and devotion to her children, when Mrs. Eliza Jane Norris passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 2, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Kramer, at the age of 72 years, three months and 10 days.
Miss Eliza Jane Wise was born at Bakersville, Ohio, Aug. 22, 1854. She was one of a family of eighteen children. Here at Bakersville her childhood days were spent and education received. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at an early age. On Dec. 24, 1874, at Newcomertown, Ohio, she was united in marriage to John Norris. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Fannie A. Kramer and Rufus C. Norris of this place, and John B. Norris of Manchester. They resided in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, until 1881, when they came to Iowa locating on a farm in Buchanan county. In 1891 Mr. Norris purchased a farm about one and one-half miles west of Strawberry Point, where the family resided until they moved to Lodomillo township. In 1900 they moved to town where they have since resided. Mr. Norris passed away Nov. 2, 1923. Since coming to town Mrs. Norris united with the Congregational church. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and the R.N. of A., both of which she attended whenever possible. She won many friends because of her splendid qualities. As a citizen of the town she cheerfully responded to every request, as far as it was within her power. Mrs. Norris has not been well for some time and when her health permitted was moved to the home of her daughter. She was tenderly cared for by those near and dear to her, until she quietly slipped away into the haven of rest, where all pain is over and where tears are unknown:
"Life's race well run,
Life's work all done,
Life's victory won,
Now cometh rest."Besides her children, she leaves three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, besides the following brothers and sisters: C. C. Wise of Kent, Ohio; Newton Wise of Bakersville, Ohio; Wm. Wise of Rock Island, Ill.; and Mesdames Ada Mizer, Sopha Hawk and Clara Trvendly of West Lafayette, Ohio.
Services were held at the Congregational church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. W. Maxwell, the R.N.A. attending in a body. Interment took place in the family lot in our cemetery.
