Clayton County Register, Thur., 2 Dec. 1926.

August Behrens, son of Siedrich and Anna Behrens was born at Guttenberg on February 18th, 1859, and was the eldest son of a family of 12 children.

The subject of this sketch passed from this life on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 27th, 1926. On the afternoon of the day previous he was taken suddenly ill and all medical skill and the unremitting care and devotion of relatives and friends seemed unavailing to stay the destroyer, till in only a few short hours death was the final victor and quietly and gently he passed to the unknown beyond. Death had placed the seal of eternal silence upon his lips.

In early life he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three sisters and six brothers. On the 16th day of February, 1884, a wedding occurred in which the contracting parties were Lena Meder and August Behrens. For more than forty-two years the union then formed continued with mutual helpfulness and happiness. Twenty-seven of these years were spent on the old farm near Mederville, nine years on their present farm and since retiring from active farm life, six years have been spent in Strawberry Point.

Deceased, at the time of his death was 67 years, nine months and 11 days, and he was known in the walks of life as a kind, loving husband and faithful father. The departed leaves a wife, three sons and one daughter to mourn his death, Albert H., who resides at Mederville, Otto A. and Ralph M. of Strawberry Point and Anna D. Stalnaker of Edgewood. He also leaves one brother, Frederick of Littleport and one sister, Helen of Guttenberg, besides three grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the late home Monday afternoon, Rev. C. H. Franke of Elkader officiating, when all that was mortal of August Behrens was laid by tender, loving hands to the dreamless sleep of death in the beautiful cemetery at Strawberry Point.
