Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Sept. 1926. Strawberry Point column.

Little do we realize what day may bring forth. This was proven true last Wednesday evening about 7 o'clock when Geo. Chamberlain, proprietor of the Lyric Theatre, dropped dead while on his way to town in front of the E. J. Opperman home. Mr. Chamberlain, who was working at the Goodrich Produce House, had not been well for some time but, attended to his work each day both at the Produce house during the day and in the evening, with the assistance of Mrs. Chamberlain, at the Lyric Theatre. Wednesday evening after eating a hearty supper he went to town to consult a doctor. Ernie Opperman, Jr., was going to town and got on the porch when he saw a man lying on the sidewalk. He told his parents and Mr. Opperman went out to help him when he discovered it was Mr. Chamberlain. A physician was summoned at once and found him past help as death was due to apoplexy. The body was taken to the Franklin Undertaking parlors and later in the evening was taken home. Mr. Chamberlain was fifty years of age and came here three years ago from Lamont since when he and Mrs. Chamberlain have conducted the Lyric Theatre and for the past two years they have been in charge of the stores at the State Park. He is survived by his heart broken wife who was formerly Miss Mayme Kash of Lamont; one sister, Mrs. G. M. Dodge of this place, and one brother, D. Chamberlain of Dundee, besides a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Maxwell. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved wife, sister and brother.
