Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Sept. 1926. From the Volga City News.
Hubert Thyne who has been a resident of this community practically all his life, committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with a 32 caliber revolver and setting fire to his clothes.
He had just started to work for Joe Little on the farm and had been in Volga City Monday morning. On his return from town he was not seen again and relatives and neighbors became alarmed at his absence.
Tuesday about noon searching parties started out and his body was found about 2 o'clock p.m. in a ditch on the Joe Little farm, about forty rods from the barn. He still had the revolver in his hand, and practically every stitch of clothes had been burned from the body. During the early morning hours a heavy rain had swelled the creek some but to all appearances his body had not been moved a particle from where he fell.
Coroner Beerman of Guttenberg was called and his remains were brought to the Blake Undertaking Parlors in this city, to be prepared for burial. They were taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Chas. Mullen, and the funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church at Cox Creek.
Mr. Thyne was a young man who had many friends and his sudden death has been a great shock to them. No reason for his rash death can be given.- Volga City News.
