Thursday, 1 September 1904, Guttenberg Clayton County Journal, Obituary, p1, c2:

John J. Pauli died of old age at the home of his daughter Mrs. Carrie Eggerth Wednesday morning August 31, 1904. he was born November 28, 1826 in Ripsdorf Regierungsbezirk Aachen, Germany and came to America and was married at Potosi, Wis., in 1852. He leaves one son, Thomas Pauli and one daughter Mrs. C. C. Eggerth to mourn his departure. He came to Guttenberg in 1897. The funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s church on Saturday September 3 at 8 a. m. The body will be taken to Glen Haven, Wis., for interment.
