Elkader Register, Thur., 27 May 1926. From the Volga News.
Reka Brinkhous, daughter of Anton and Augusta Bringhous, was born in Cox Creek township Sept. 16, 1862, and died at her home in Mederville on May 20, 1926, aged 63 years, 8 mos. and 4 days.
She was one of a family of nine children, five brothers, Jake and Anton of Doon, Iowa, Charles of Rushmore, Minn., Ed of Gothenberg, Nebr., and William of Mederville, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. Lilly Frerichs of Doon, Iowa, surviving her. Three brothers, George, John and Herman preceded her in death.
She was married to Martin Hubbard in May, 1885. To this union four children were born, George of near Elkader, Earl of Mederville, Charles who lives on the old farm and Ophelia, whose death occurred April 28, 1903. Six grandchildren also survive her.
Mrs. Hubbard was a member of Hilcrest Camp No. 7503 R.N.A. and the Ladies' Aid of Mederville, by whom she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Hubbard's illness dated from last December, and although all that doctors and nurses and loving care of the children could do was done, it was of no avail and she passed to the Great Beyond, leaving but a pleasant remembrance of a happy, cheerful disposition.
Funeral services were conducted at the home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Rembold of Arlington, and the remains were laid to rest in the Mederville cemetery.- Volga News.
(Note: The surname Bringhous/Brinkhous was spelled both ways in the article, as presented here.)
