Mrs. Charles Yunker, nee Mary Niemann, a former long-time highly respected resident of Guttenberg, passed away on Wednesday afternoon of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Hackney, at Milwaukee, Wis., after a short illness at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 26 days. Deceased was born in Preuss Minden, Germany, on November 2, 1854, immigrating to the United States with her father, Frederick Niemann, when fourteen years of age and settling at Guttenberg, where she resided until three years ago, when she went to Milwaukee, Wis., to make her home with her daughter and family. She was married at Guttenberg fifty-four years ago to Mr. Charles Yunker, who preceded her in death eleven years ago. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Yunker were successfully engaged in business here. Three years ago Mrs. Yunker disposed of her grocery business in this city. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran church. Mrs. Yunker was a kind and loving mother, sister and friend, always ready with heart and hand to help those in need, which won her many friends during life, and by whom her memories will be cherished. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. James Hackney of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. John Hackney of Dubuque and Mrs. Bertha Lindberg of Chicago; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Wm. Langman of Guttenberg and numerous other relatives and friends by whom this good and true Christian woman will be sadly missed. The body was brought to Guttenberg on Friday afternoon and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Langman. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Emil Lehne at St. John's church in this city on Saturday morning. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The funeral services were largely attended.
