Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Apr. 1926.
Mrs. Emma Eggert Kuehl was born on the 16th day of December, 1878, in Hamburg, Germany. Her pious parents early in life brought her to the sacred waters of Holy Baptism and after she had attended the public school and religious instruction she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. When she was seventeen years of age she came to America with her mother and brother. They located in Guttenberg, Iowa. In the year 1899 she was united in marriage to Herman Kuehl at Garnavillo, Iowa. To this happy union five children were born of whom three have preceded their mother in death. After their marriage the Kuehls lived in Elkport. In 1916 they moved to Charles City, later to Rudd and of late to Garner, Iowa. In all these places Mr. Kuehl was engaged as a produce merchant.
When a child Mrs. Kuehl had an attack of rheumatism which left her heart in a weakened condition. This weakness became more serious in the course of time and of late years has been alarming. When she returned to Charles City on Thursday, April 7th, she immediately took to bed from which she was to rise no more. On Monday, April 12th, she peacefully passed away at the age of 47 years, 3 months and 22 days. She is survived by her husband, Herman Kuehl and two daughters, Mrs. Alma Reko of Mason City and Alice Kuehl, at home. May she rest in peace. Interment was made at Elkport.
