Elkader Register, Thur., 18 Mar. 1926. Guttenberg News column.

Mrs. George F. Friedlein, (nee Barbara Schrunk) (next several words blurred) respected resident of Guttenberg, passed away at her home near Perry, Missouri, on last Thursday morning, March 11, 1926, after an illness of a long duration, and at the age of 63 years, 2 months and 28 days. Deceased was born as a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Schrunk, of Mallory township, Clayton county, on December 18, 1862, where her childhood days were spent. Forty-four years ago she was married at Elkader to Mr. George Friedlein, after their marriage the couple settled on a farm in Millville township, where they lived until the year 1894, when they came to Guttenberg to reside. After residing at Guttenberg for a number of years, they went to Dubuque to make their home, where they lived until six years ago, when they settled on a farm near Perry, Missouri, and where Mrs. Friedlein spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Friedlein was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister and friend, her greatest pleasure in life at all times being to do acts of kindness for her family and friends, by whom her memories will be forever cherished. During her illness she was a patient sufferer and had hopes for recovery until the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond. All that loving hands could do and medical aid could suggest was done for her to save her life, but all to no avail. Her death is deeply mourned by her husband, eight children, Dr. Nick Friedlein, Mrs. Alma Miner and Mrs. Violet Ricketts, all of Dubuque, Mrs. Mary Thames of Fredonia, Kansas, Miss Mabel Friedlein of Chicago, Miss Laura Friedlein of Chisholm, Minn., August Friedlein and Miss Lucile Friedlein of Perry, Missouri. A number of grandchildren, three brothers, George, Otto and Charles Schrunk of Danbury, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Rosina Birch of Minneapolis and numerous other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss their worthy wife, mother, sister and friend. The body was brought to Guttenberg for burial, arriving here on Saturday morning and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred N. Friedlein. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's United Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. D. Welch of the M.E. church officiating. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
