Elkader Register, Thur., 4 Mar. 1926. Garnavillo columns.
Mr. Henry Wm. Dickman, a highly respected citizen of this community, died at his home here Sunday morning, Feb. 21, at 7:30, after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach. He had been ailing since last June. During the summer he was taken to Rochester, Minn., where he submitted to two operations. The first one was performed on August 31st and it left him in such a weakened condition that his recovery was a matter of grave doubt. He rallied, however, and about six weeks later submitted to a second operation.. He returned to his home here on the 22nd of October and the outlook for recovery was rather promising until about Thanksgiving time, when it became evident that the dreaded disease would persist. Mr. Dickman was born on Aug. 25, 1864, in Garnavillo township. He was the youngest son of Frederick Dickman and his wife Rosina, nee Thoma. He was confirmed in Zions Lutheran church at Clayton Center on April 14, 1878. On December 20, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Fredericka Brandtman of Elkport. This union was blessed with eight children, Irene, Eldo, Edwin, William, George, Arno, Elmer and Henry. Four years ago Mr. and Mrs. Dickman left the old homestead, the place of Mr. Dickman's birth, where he had lived for more than half a century, and moved to town to take a well earned rest. His untimely death is mourned by his devoted wife, one daughter, seven sons and three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Mueller of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Elizabeth Schierholz and Mrs. Paulina Kregel of Monona, one brother, William of Garnavillo and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church, Wednesday afternoon and was very largely attended, Rev. K. W. Braun officiating. Interment was made in the new cemetery.
