Elkader Register, Thur., 11 Feb. 1926.
Mrs. Tilda Gunderson of the Aase Hauge Home at Decorah passed away and was buried at the Norway cemetery.
Mrs. Tilda Gunderson was born in Numedal, Norway, Aug. 10, 1833, and passed away Jan. 30, 1926, at the Aase Hauge home for the aged at Decorah. She was ninety-two years, five months and twenty days old. She was "full of years".
Mrs. Gunderson came to America in July 18_1, and was united in marriage to Severt Gunderson in 1863. To this union was born one son, Gilbert. The parents also took and made as their own a little girl, who later became Mrs. Torkel Rierson.
She made her home at Rock Prairie, Wis., for forty-five years. While there, in 1890, her husband died and was buried in the Luther Valley cemetery, Rock Prairie, Wis. After this she made her home in and about St. Olaf, Iowa, for a time and then moved to the Aase Hauge home at Decorah,, where she spent her last days.
Mrs. Gunderson was a true "Pietist of the pilgrim type, putting her Saviour first and her body under." As many of God's children, she was sometimes made fun of by the careless and thoughtless world. Still nothing daunted her in her onward march toward the goal she has now reached.
She enjoyed good health throughout life until a few weeks before Christmas, when she fell and hurt her hip. After this time she was confined to her bed most of the time and this fall, together with old age, was the cause of her death.
Her son, G. S. Gunderson of Dayton, Ohio, came to pay his mother that regard due her, which honorable men are glad to do. He came from Dayton, where he is engaged in business, did what he could to carry out what he knew to be her wishes and pay respect.
Mrs. T. Rierson and family together with other relatives were active in doing what they could to make sympathy felt and respect shine forth.
(Note: A card of thanks further notes that Mrs. Torkel Rierson is of Wagner (township ?.)
