Elkader Register, Thur., 4 Feb. 1926.
Mrs. Pauline Brown, one of this community's highly respected residents and most worthy mothers peacefully passed away at her home in Guttenberg on last Thursday morning, January 28, 1926, at 7:30 o'clock, after a several weeks' illness. Mrs. brown was born near Stetin, Province of Pommern, Germany, on October 15, 1846, as a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Friderick Adler, and was 79 years, three months and 13 days of age when called to the Great Beyond. She grew to womanhood in Germany, where she was united in marriage with Mr. William Brown in the year 1866. In the year 1869 she came to America with her family and settled on a farm near Elkport, Iowa, residing there until the year 1882, when she and her family moved onto another farm near Garber, Iowa. In 1896 the family moved to the town of Elkport. Mr. Brown died in the month of September of the year 1902. In 1905 Mrs. Brown came to Guttenberg, Iowa, to make her home, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. During her illness she was a patient sufferer. All that loving hands could do and medical aid could suggest was done for her to save her life, but all failed when the Angel of Death called for her to the other and better world, where there is no more suffering, but joy and happiness forever. Mrs. Brown was a kind and loving mother and friend. Doing acts of kindness for her friends and family was her greatest pleasure in life at all times and her memory will be forever cherished by all. Her death is deeply mourned by two daughters, Mrs. Ida Keagan, of Winthrop, Iowa, and Mrs. Clara Smith, of Guttenberg, Iowa; three sons, Paul Brown, of Spencer, Iowa, H. O. Brown of Newark, S.D., and William T. Brown of Valeria, Iowa; one step-daughter, Mrs. Augusta Gillett, of Charles City, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends by whom this good and true woman will be sadly missed. Three sons, Otto, George and Herman, one step-son, William, have preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at St John's Evangelical Lutheran church in this city on Saturday morning, Rev. Emil Lehne officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Mount Harmony cemetery near Elkport. The funeral was largely attended.
