Newton Benzing

Funeral services for Newton Benzing were held Monday, December 17, 1 p.m., at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Organist was Ric Benzing. Special music by Cindy Courtney and Joni Allsup. Burial was in Giard Cemetery, rural Farmersburg. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.

Newton Monroe Benzing was born March 24, 1912 in Giard Township, Clayton County. His parents were John and Ellen Klotzbach Benzing. He died Friday, December 21, 1990 at his home in Monona.

He received his education in rural schools and Monona High School graduating in 1928. He also attended Cedar Rapids business college. He joined his older brother in business following college graduation.

On September 30, 1939, he married Irene Miller at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.

He became a distributor of electronic equipment for Setchell Carlson Inc. and represented them for 30 years, until retirement. He also operated a Telegraph Delivery route for 31 years.

He was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church and served as a trustee and on many church boards. He also taught Sunday School. He was an active numismatic for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother and a brother, Kenneth and an infant sister.

Surviving are his wife, Irene and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Larry Riveland, Jim Burger, Ron Ferguson, Bob Marovets, Jack Dittmer and Rod J. Satter.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bobby Jean Allert, Telmer Olson, Freddie Nevermann, Harland Kottman, Harley Herrmann, Verni Kruse and LaVerne Kruse.
