Clayton County Register, Thur., 22 Dec. 1932.

John Scheidt, long-time, high-regarded resident of this community, died at his home in Guttenberg last Thursday afternoon at the age of 83 years, following a short illness. He was married to Miss Dorothy Vogt, who preceded him in death two years ago. Mr. Scheidt was an ambitious man during his entire life. For a time he was employed on steamboats plying the Mississippi river, in the early days. He was also employed at the Zimmerman and Ives sawmill, which operated in Guttenberg years ago, and furnished employment for many local men. Of late years he had been engaged as a button worker at button factories in Guttenberg. He was a man of a kind and pleasing disposition, and was held in high regard by all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church here Saturday morning, with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John Eilers of Dubuque and Mrs. Alphonse Vorwald of Guttenberg; seven grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends, who will all sadly miss him. The funeral was well attended.
