Clayton County Register, Thur., 8 Dec. 1932. Wood column.
Ida Alvine Theil Von Talge was born in Pommern, Germany, on the 8th of December, 1860, and died at her home at Wood, Elk township, Iowa, on Wednesday noon, Nov. 30, 1932, at the age of 72 years. Her death was caused by diabetic conditions, together with old age and other complications.
Mrs. Von Talge came to this country when a young lady and for some time made her home near Colesburg. Here she met and married the young man of her choice and Jan. 12, 1881, she became the bride of Herman Von Talge. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters, all of whom have preceded her in death except one daughter, Mrs. Ben Wessel of this place, and one son, George, who lives near Colesburg. After their marriage they made their home near Colesburg for a few years, later moving near Manchester, where they resided for a period of time. Then they moved west of Greeley and then moved to a farm near wood, where they have since made their home. She, together with her husband, was one of the early settlers of this community, and needless to say were some of those early sturdy pioneers, who endured the hardships and privations of frontier life, blazing a trail through the forest, clearing the hills and valleys, causing them to bring forth an abundance of grain, building them a home and rearing their children in the fear of God, teaching them the love of country, respect for law and instilling in them those sterling qualities of character that are so essential to building of sturdy manhood and womanhood. Mrs. Von Talge had a sturdy physique which enabled her to stand the strain of early pioneer life demanded from her, making a home for her family was no easy task in primitive days and she often met with discouragement that put life to its severest tests. The Angel of Death called at her door a number of times and she had to learn to give up those who meant much in her life. A kind and Heavenly Father came and removed her from this world to the other. So sudden was her passing that no one realized that she had gone. She United with the Methodist Episcopal church shortly after coming to this country, at Colesburg, later transferring her membership to the Wood Methodist church of which she since remained a member.
She leaves to mourn her death one son, one daughter, one brother, 15 grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Meyer on Friday afternoon and interment was made in the Ebenezer cemetery at Wood.
