Charles W. Newberry, veteran member of the Clayton county bar, died at his home in Strawberry Point, Tuesday morning, Nov. 1st, following a brief illness.
Mr. Newberry was born in Ohio, Dec. 23, 1864, the third son of James and Hannah M. Newberry. The family moved to Iowa in 1855 and settled on a farm located in Cass and Lodomillo townships. About 1876 they moved to Strawberry Point. James Newberry was prominent in public affairs serving as county supervisor and also in the Iowa legislature. Charles W. grew to manhood on the farm, studied law, was admitted to the bar and in 1887 went into partnership with his brother, Byron W., a partnership and close association that continued until his death.
Mr. Newberry was never married, for years he and his sister Miss Kate Newberry have maintained the home in Strawberry Point, where he died.
He is survived by two brothers, Byron W. of Strawberry Point and Frank, living in California, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kingsley and Miss Kate Newberry of Strawberry Point, with more distant relatives. A host of friends who knew and respected him will miss him and will join in sympathy to the bereaved relatives. He was a high type of man and citizen.
Funeral services will be held at the home in Strawberry Point Saturday, Nov. 5th, at 2:00 p.m.
