Clayton County Register, Thur., 20 Oct. 1932.
Otto Carl Polkow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Polkow, was born August 7, 1869, at Klein Beuste_, Altmark, Germany. At the age of four he emigrated with his parents to America and settled in Clayton Center, where they remained several years. Later his parents took up farming in Read township.
In 1882 he was confirmed in the Lutheran Zion's church at Clayton Center by Rev. Seifert, which church he later joined as a voting member. He spent all his lifetime, with the exception of the first few years, in this township and county. He built up the place where his brother Henry is now living, but later went back to the old home place. In 1919 he left the farm and went to Elkader, where he resided 12 years, or until in 1931 a light stroke forced him to give up his residence there and live with his brother Henry. Here he found all the care and love which helped him to endure his suffering. He died on October 17, 1932, following another stroke a few days before, having reached the age of 64 years, two months and ten days.
Those mourning his departure are Mrs. Wm. Taake, nee Polkow, Farmersburg; Henry Polkow, Read township; Mrs. Hermann Glawe, nee Polkow, Boardman township, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Henry Polkow and at the Lutheran church at Clayton Center Interment was made in the new cemetery, the Rev. B. F. Korte officiating.
(Note: Dates we clear in this article. His age at death appears to be off by one year.)
