Died at the home of her son, C.J. Neill, near Farmersburg, Thursday December 22nd, 1898, Mrs. Emily Neill, aged 79 years, 1 month and 22 days.

Emily E. Johnson was born in the state of New York Oct. 31st, 1819. She was married to Joseph Neill, Oct. 6th, 1852. Two children were born to them, Samuel Nelson who died Sept. 14th, 1881; Chauncy Johnson who still survives her and with whom she has resided for several years past.

In early life she embraced the truths of religion and for nearly forty years has been an active member of the M.E. church. An earnest consistant christian, a devoted mother, a friend and neighbor loved and respected by all who knew her.

A resident of this county for many years, she was one that largely contributed to the welfare of the coming emigration that filed through this country in the 50's and the 60's. No one went from her door empty handed. A good woman a noble motherly woman.

Note: Joseph Neill (1795-1859) is buried in the Monona City cemetery. Emily was his 2nd wife. Emily was also married a 2nd time to John Belliss.
