Karl Joacham Christian Schmidt was born April 24, 1843 in Rubenow Griepswald Forpomer--. When he was 2 yrs. old his parents moved to Lubmanadon where he lived until he was 2- years old. From 1863 to 1870 he served as a soldier in the German army and took part in a number of the great battles of that time.
In 1866 he was married to Carolina Gless, to which union were born 5 children. In 1885 they came to America to reside at Garnavillo, they lived here for six years, then moving out to the farm west of town, where they lived for 19 years. In 1910 they moved back to town and he continued to make his home here after the death of his wife in March 1911.
About two weeks ago he went to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Fascher, where he was taken sick, death came Wednesday night, Nov. 17th, he being 72 years, 6 months and 23 days old at the time of his death, and is survived by his two children, William Schmidt of Farmersburg and Mrs. Carl Fascher of this place.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at St. Paul's church, Rev. Braun officiating. Interment in the old cemetery.
