Funeral services for C. E. Howland were held at the home west of town Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor of the M.E. church, Rev. T. J. Elwick. The pall bearers were: F. E. Tracy, Louie Gamm, F. E. Davis, John Lee, Ralph Dunn and August Gipper. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery.
Clarence Eugene Howland was born in Clayton county, Iowa, May 10, 1875, and passed away at his home west of Strawberry Point, Monday, Aug. 1, 1932.
He was married to Miss Maude Bogardus January 22, 1896, and to this union were born three children, Clarence G., Winnie Mae and Dale Max. His entire life was spent on farms in this neighborhood, living in the home where he died the past twelve years. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Maude Howland, his three children, Clarence G. Howland, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Winnie Mae Rummel, Oelwein, and Dale Max Howland of Strawberry Point; also one granddaughter, Alice Carrie Rummel. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Harry Harkins, Oelwein; Mrs. Robert Wagner, Bingham Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Jess Strawm, Toledo, Ore.; and Mrs. R C. Smith, Arlington; and one half-brother, Leon Howland, Toledo, Ore., besides many other relatives and numerous friends. Also Mrs. E. E. Burns of Lamont, a sister of Mrs. Howland, who made her home as a member of the Howland family seventeen years before her marriage. Mr. Howland was a man of sterling worth and character, an excellent husband and father and a loyal and helpful neighbor and friend. His home and family were his chief enjoyment and his presence and good cheer will be greatly missed.
