Clayton County Register, Thur., 2 Jun. 1932.
Carl Limbeck, 19, McGregor, and Arno Schievelbein, Clayton Center, are dead and Gordon Dohrer of this place is seriously injured as the result of an automobile accident which occurred a short distance east of Giard at about four o'clock last Monday afternoon.
Limbeck died almost instantly but Schievelbein was taken to the McGregor hospital where he died a short time later as a result of his injuries. He had a basic fracture of the skull and Limbeck's neck was broken. Dohrer, who was badly cut about the face and bruised on the body, was at first taken to the McGregor hospital but later returned to Elkader for medical attention and he is now in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dohrer
Dohrer and Schievelbein had driven to McGregor earlier in the day and Limbeck was accompanying them on the return trip to Elkader. Parties who were on the road just previous to the accident have stated that the car, a light roadster, was traveling at a very fast rate of speed at the foot of the McGregor hill and it is believed that this speed was maintained and that it was primarily the cause of the accident.
Reports have come to the attention of county officials that liquor was found in the car following the accident and County Attorney F. E. Sharp stated Tuesday noon that as (next several words missing) once.
Funeral service for Limbeck was held in McGregor yesterday, while the body of Schievelbein was brought to the local mortuary and service will be held in the Clayton Center church this afternoon and burial will be made in the Clayton Center cemetery.
The car, which went through the accident, was driven back to Elkader under its own power, only slightly damaged.
